PT Profile: Kevin Axtman, PT, DPT, MM, LATC | Jan 23, 2015

Kevin Axtman, PT, DPT, MM, LATC, has been an active PT for 33 years. His main area of expertise is in outpatient orthopedics and sports medicine. He currently works at the Bone and Joint Center in Bismarck, ND.

Kevin graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1982. He was an active member of the North Dakota Board of Physical Therapy from 2000-2009. During his term, the NDBPT re-wrote the Practice Act and did two updates to the Rules and Regulations.

Kevin has been an APTA member since 1982. "I think it's important to be involved in the group that is representing your livelihood. So many things are happening that if you're not involved, someone else will make those decisions for you. I enjoy working with our local chapter (NDPTA). The group works well together, but also works well with the State Board of Physical Therapy, State Legislature, and the insurance companies. A lot of good things have happened with these relationships: Direct Access, Peer Review, and grassroots efforts when problems show up."

Kevin and his wife Lisa (a nurse at Sanford in Bismarck) will be married 30 years this spring. They have 2 children; Ben (who was just married this past year) is a general surgery resident in Oklahoma City, and Sami is a nurse in Denver. His entire family is in the medical profession! Kevin enjoys golf, hunting, and family. He is looking forward to being a grandfather in March!
