Northland to National Student Conclave | Jan 27, 2012

On October 21st, 2011, 23 students from Northland Community & Technical College, 12 second year students and 11 first year students, embarked on a journey to Minneapolis, MN for the National Student Conclave. We arrived just in time for lunch served from free lunch bags and students everywhere! We then attended four half hour speakers to introduce students on ways to gain leadership, introduce residencies, and effective ways to promote one's self. As a group, we ate from the delicious Buca di Beppos. Some students went to their rooms after eating, while others explored Minneapolis, especially Target Field.

Saturday started off with breakfast with the APTA President, Scott Ward, along with the nominees for various Student Assembly positions. Following breakfast, some students participated in the presentation of Candidates. Each person had to answer a question regarding the position he or she ran for. We then voted, which had an unusual twist to it. Each student had the opportunity to win a trip to Annual Conference in Tampa, FL by having the most creative pose of placing their ballet into the box.

Many NCTC students took advantage of the Exhibit Hall. This gave many students the opportunity to meet recruiters, school representatives, and seize free items such as pens, cups, computer cases, and tape measures. Students were able to mingle and create new networks with many other PT and PTA students from various states.

Sunday, the last day of the Conclave, ended with breakfast and a conference on financial management. Sunday was also the day the new 2012 APTA Student Assembly Board was unveiled. Not only did the NCTC students get to meet many new people that share the same passion as they do, but they also got the opportunity to form long lasting bonds with their fellow classmates. On behalf of the NCTC PTA students, we greatly appreciate the funds that aided us on an educational and worth-while trip.
