Message from the President | Mar 31, 2017

Happy Spring to all! Exciting time of year as the days turn warmer and our graduating students look forward to a new chapter in their lives. We wish them all the very best as they move our profession boldly into the future. Healthcare continues to be a hot topic and as healthcare practitioners we need to be aware of the ever-changing landscape. It is critical to stand as a united profession to protect our scope of practice to serve our patients and clients. I encourage every physical therapist and physical therapist assistant to consider the importance of membership and supporting the future of physical therapy. Please contact me or any board member if you wish to learn more about the benefits of membership in APTA and NDPTA.

I would like to congratulate the NDPTA award winners for this year. NDPTA has three awards that are given out annually, based on nominations from NDPTA members. Friends of the Chapter Award is intended for an individual or group other than a physical therapist who has significantly contributed to the betterment of Physical Therapy in the State of North Dakota. The award was given to the Fargo South Point Kiwanis Club for their support of the PT students at University of Jamestown. Outstanding Service Award is intended to recognize members of the NDPTA for their outstanding contributions to the profession of physical therapy. This was awarded to Pat Carter for her dedicated years of service to NDPTA and the profession. Student Award is intended to acknowledge a PT or PTA student for noteworthy contributions to NDPTA, their school, and the profession of Physical Therapy. We received four nominations this year: Daniel Himmerick, Corey Langerud, Ryan Dennehy, and Kaari Burbach. All students were qualified and deserving of the award but Kaari Burbach received the award for 2017.

We thank the members for all the nominations and again thank the nominees and winners.

Mark your calendars for the spring NDPTA Board and Business meetings April 7 in Minot. We would love to see you there or on the meet-me-line!
