History

The state chapter of the North Dakota Physical Therapy Association (NDPTA) was chartered by the American Physical Therapy Association on June 28, 1954. Clarence Blecha, PT was instrumental in the early organization of the NDPTA as the first elected president from 1953-1955. The NDPTA remains an all volunteer organization advancing the quality of physical therapy in the state to meet the needs of society by representing and promoting the profession of physical therapy. Through the efforts of the NDPTA, physical therapists in the state gained direct access to patient care after the signing of house bill 1362 by Governor George Sinner in 1989.

The NDPTA remains a progressive organization to this day offering chart reviews and educational programs for appropriate physical therapy documentation, biannual continuing education conferences, and chapter meetings through internet video streaming.
